What We're Working On
• AAGIE also is working to keep track of your concerns with inspection ordinances that have passed. We will work with the respective cities to make sure the inspection process is fair and does not violate any California laws.

Help AAGIE track local ordinances and resolutions in your city! If you learn of proposed legislation of concern, please call AAGIE Public Affairs and let us know so we can advocate for you!
As a member of the Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire, you will have an advocate on your team to fight for your rights as a rental housing owner. AAGIE works hard tracking the latest ordinances affecting the rental housing industry in cities throughout the Inland Empire. Through the use of newspapers, press releases, and monitoring city council agendas, AAGIE Government Affairs keeps up to date in more than 60 cities.

AAGIE has worked hard to create a comprehensive list of cities served and the ordinances each city has regarding rental housing. Please refer to the green insert box at right for an update. You can keep track of all the legislative activities through the AAGIE magazine or here on the website!

What We've Done
• In San Bernardino, AAGIE worked to stop a proposed real estate transfer tax that was specifically designed to bring additional revenue into the city, while driving out investors and landlords. AAGIE attended the budget meetings and worked with other local real estate associations to voice opposition to the proposed transfer tax. AAGIE also voiced their support for responsible landlords and investors who wish to conduct business in San Bernardino. AAGIE was successful in stopping the proposed tax.

• In Fontana, AAGIE is working with the City Council and Fontana Police Department to develop ways to inform landlords about the recently enacted "Social Hosts to Minors and Unruly Gatherings Ordinance." This ordinance places culpability on those responsible for hosting parties where minors consume alcohol or other illegal substances, and holds people responsible if they host, allow, or permit unruly gatherings. AAGIE staff expressed their concerns to the City and is working with the Police Department to create a brochure that outlines the stipulations of the ordinance and the steps landlords can take to protect themselves.

• AAGIE informed the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors that a proposed ordinance to hold rental property owners responsible for the delinquent bills of their former tenants is illegal. The Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors voted against going forward with the proposed ordinance.

• In Loma Linda, AAGIE worked to stop a fee-based inspection ordinance from passing. AAGIE spoke with the city council and helped them understand why the ordinance was unnecessary. AAGIE was successful in stopping the ordinance.

Firestorm 2007
In October 2007, Southern California was devastated by enormous wildfires in all five counties. AAGIE, along with the other Southern California CAA chapters, came together to create a list of members who were willing to offer special concessions to families who had lost their homes. Some members offered a waived security deposit, short term leases, waived application fees, reduced rent, and even 6 months free rent.
The efforts garnered media attention as many families were in desperate need. Watch the video at right to see how AAGIE helped families seek housing in difficult times.

Each of the chapters, Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire, South Coast Apartment Association, San Diego County Apartment Association, and CAA Los Angeles, received a humanitarian award from the California Apartment Association for their dedication to improving lives.
